Why is GATE exam important ?

There are MANY engineering colleges where most of the students remain unemployed at the end of 4 years. You must be wondering by now isn't there any light of hope at all? 

The good news is, there is and the light of hope is what they call Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). And why is that you ask. Let's focus on what you can achieve if you clear GATE with a good rank.

1. You can pursue M.Tech or MS from IITs. What's so special about getting another degree anyway? Well, not so much if you're a undergraduate of a IIT or NIT and already placed in core companies but invaluable if you're from a private engineering college. You'll be exposed to some of the best faculties of India,  best research facilities, best infrastructure  which you could only dream of during your B.Tech years.
2. IITs have recognition all over the world. So if you go abroad, you'll get immediate respect. It's also easy to get internships abroad by the recommendation of IIT professors. Even in India, you'll be doing your research under the guidance of eminent professors.
3. You don't have to worry about placements anymore. If you work hard for only two more years (three years in case of MS), you're more than likely to land a job in your dream companies.
4. If studying abroad is something you want to do, you're in the right place! Foreign universities like NUS, NTU Singapore, TU München, ETH Zurich, OULU Finland, ENS Paris and others accept GATE score.
5. If you ever had a dream of doing MBA, GATE can offer you that too! NITIE, Mumbai is the best institute in India for Supply chain management(Yes, better than IIMs too in SCM) which shortlist candidates in its PGDIE course through GATE score.
6. If you feel two more years of study after four years of B.Tech is too long a path, well, who said you have to study two more years? All the PSUs including the likes of Indian Oil, ONGC, BARC, Power Grid take engineers through GATE score only. 

I hope all the above reasons are good enough for one to understand why is GATE so important. On a lighter note, it's like a second chance.. (for those who once were disappointed when JEE result came out!).. and life doesn't always  give you a second chance.
